Long Point Fall Migration Monitoring

Long Point, Ontario is a narrow sand peninsula that acts as a funnel and a gathering point for migrating monarchs each year. Fall migration of the monarch has been monitored at two sites each year: Breakwater Point and the tip of Long Point. Every fall since 1995, a standardized daily count (census) has been carried out by volunteers. Each survey is a one hour walking census where the number of monarchs observed are recorded. Surveys begin at August 1st and continue until the end of September at Breakwater and until late October at the tip.
